A New Community Alliance and Crowdfunding Campaign

Until now the gas holder campaign has consisted of multiple groups and individuals, working independently, often with different interests and objectives. This was because the application involved three Boroughs. Two were the local planning authorities making the ultimate decisions (Kingston and Merton), and the third (Sutton) was a statutory consultee.

With the application called in by the Mayor, and GLA now the local planning authority, it was widely agreed that a different, more unified approach would be required.

Representatives from the areas that will feel the greatest impact of the gasholder development have decided to meet regularly: the Station Estate, Marina Avenue (West Barnes), Worcester Park and Motspur Park.

This group has been called ‘Motspur Park Gasholders Watch – a community alliance for responsible development’. The website now supports this group’s work.

The different groups will hopefully exploit lobbying opportunities working together and share information as it becomes available. They will be leafletting the whole area in the coming weeks to ensure that everyone knows about the next steps with the GLA and how to object.

To win again, the group have launched a crowdfunder appeal to raise funds to pay for a Chartered Landscape Architect and Chartered Town Planner to produce professional evidence that cannot be ignored.  Please see the crowdfunder appeal below which will explain this in more detail, and please give whatever you can to support this campaign.
